The Stars
We recently just returned from a trip to WY. We were driving through the night, I love it because everything is so dark that you can see the millions of stars that are really out there. I remember whenever we would camp out or I would go and sleep on the trampoline at my friend's house I could literally sit there and watch the stars for hours. For this reason I always wanted to be an astronomer, but the math was a huge turn off for me. Fractions are the worst! It makes me sad to think the United States space shuttle program has been put on hold.
I was listening to NPR the other day and they were discussing how the end of the space shuttle program is going to put an end to children wanting to become scientist. I agree with that 100%, what other program out there is going to encourage children to think outside of the box? The United States has already cut back on the music programs, sports programs, and arts. What's left for them to use their creativity and their curiosity to learn new things? I feel that with the end of the space shuttle program is one more way of hurting the future for our children. I know I'm going to do my best to teach Scout about music, science, nature, and history. Just thinking about his future scares me and worries me...ah it takes me back to the stars, the world of the unknown is such a scary yet exciting place. I feel like that about my family's future. There's only so much we truly know and can control the rest is just an idea of how we would like it to turn out.
